Planning of Researches and Applications for Advanced Sustainable Development Technologies

Absrtact
The main objective of this project is to devise strategic plans and suggestions on how to develop the following technologies which are considered to be able to facilitate sustainable development: (1) process technologies relevant to raise eco-efficiency, (2) new development on and applications of renewable energy, (3) use of molecular biology in green production and pollution prevention, (4) planning of eco-city and (5) green product design technology. The content of this project involves (1) collecting information from both domestic and foreign resources, (2) analyzing the strength, weakness, threat and opportunities (SWOT) related to developing these technologies in Taiwan, (3) suggesting top priority technology items for development, (4) recommending resource input (manpower and budget) if appropriate and (5) planning on how to use and promote these technologies in the future (including regulatory measures). In carrying out this project, one expert from each of the above-mentioned technology areas was designated as the Chairperson. The Chairperson was responsible for drafting the report, summon and chair two consultative meetings (each with at least seven experts from various areas) to receive guidance and recommendations to reach consensus. These reports were then compiled by the implementation organization of this project, the Environment and Development Foundation (EDF). Besides the five technologies spelled out in the contract, EDF has also collected relevant information on the topic, ” The use of nano-technology in the environmental protection area” and drafted a preliminary strategic plan.
